The Emma - Help with Parkinson's Disease (28th July 2019)
What a wonderful technology this is - a pen that compensates the tremors of your hand in such a way that a person with Parkinson's can write and draw almost like they could before.
It is based on the ideas originally developed for a spoon by Liftware that allowed people with tremors or difficulty of movement with their hands to eat with a spoon themselves again. This is one of the greatest examples on how technology can help people with disabilities. A very touching story. |

Basically this tool allows you to create your own 3D plastic colorful masterpieces; anything from your own creations to toys to 3D art. Just watch the video on what is possible. And read this article here - it is cool too. |

1st Step to Bright New Future - NYC Portal? (20th December 2015)

We need DaaS (Data as a Service), not data downloads!
We need Enterprise Reporting (across/linked with to Public)! We need Enterprise Search & Data Discovery (across/linked to Public)! The world belongs to APIs and standards based service feeds - yet no government offers them with sufficient SLAs in place. Well, NYC has started something in the right direction! |
Even though this is not quite the full end game, it is important to note that the NYC OpenData site includes a lot of the key points required to move forward:
- It has some great UX thought processes within it; it is only 2 clicks deep to find your information, several news like information introducing anything new that might be of relevant to you, clean and simple interface that works equally well in laptops, tablets and smart devices etc.
- It has been built with APIs and those are available for anybody to consume and discover under settings menu button (little bluish tool that looks like wrench on top right).
- A full enterprise search is included and results are shown as thumbnails.
- When you select your data, you can access the data as a full/partial download with various file formats or as data feeds that you could access to other systems.
- You can also select other ways to view/access/feed the data like interactive maps (Map as a Service), charts (Analytics as a Service) or reports although these are not very comprehensive yet. However they are represented as part of the search results with distinctive icon representation – which is a very intuitive way of viewing the information.
